Marion tapping into federal funds to help rebuild its water system, mayor says

The water treatment facilities have had facility's roof repairs, paint, and new fence.

Marion is “literally rebuilding a complete water system,” according to Mayor Dexter Hinton.

Settling ponds, basins and water tanks have been cleaned, and new control and monitoring systems have been installed, Hinton said. “We ordered new mechanical valves for our plant; those alone are over $200,000,” he said.

“We also repaired our (Marion Military Institute) well, so we have two wells in operation,” he said.

“We have one well that is operating, and is a good well, but it needs cleaning and rehabilitation. We need to start on a new well, and we need to replace some draining valves in our basins. We need some other new upgraded equipment too, and we need to replace some water lines in the city.”
