Phase One of repairs to the Perry County Courthouse have been completed at the cost of $180,000, said an announcement from County Commissioner Albert Turner, Jr.

Phase One included the repairs of ten columns on the building. The next phase will focus on repairs and designs to the front porch and steps. Turner's announcement said that handrails will be installed at the outer square leading to the courthouse.

This phase is expected to take three months to complete, with an estimated cost for $250,000. Plans for the repairs will be brought to the Perry Count Commission to considered this month.

"Chairman Turner said that the restoration of the Perry County Courthouse is imperative to changing the image of the downtown," Turner's announcement said. "The Perry County Courthouse is the centerpiece of the Marion Courthouse Square Historic District."
