The newly rebuilt Flatwood Community Center in Montgomery County has reopened its doors after suffering extensive damage from a tornado in November of 2022.

The new building now boasts modern amenities that include a computer lab, a fully equipped kitchen, and a multipurpose meeting space.

“Rebuilding the Flatwood Community Center was a promise we were determined to keep,” said Montgomery County Commission (MCC) Chairman Doug Singleton. “This new facility not only represents our commitment to recovering from the storm, but also our dedication to enhancing community life. We are proud to provide a space where residents can come together, connect, and thrive.”

The center will be able to host community events and programs such as senior activities, a youth summer camp, health and wellness classes, and neighborhood gatherings.

It is set to add enhancements that include an updated walking trail and a new playground, as well as space for local organizations to hold meetings and events.

“We are incredibly proud to open the doors of the Flatwood Community Center once again,” said MCC Vice Chairman Isaiah Sankey. “The new center stands as a symbol of the Flatwood community’s strength and unity. We look forward to seeing it serve as a vibrant space for gathering, learning, and celebrating for many years to come.”
