Rise & Recover check

Miah Tolbert, CEO of Rise & Recover Selma, accepted a check for $11,500 from state Rep. Prince Chestnut.

A Selma-based restorative justice program is becoming known statewide, and State Rep. Prince Chestnut honored its CEO with a check on Sept. 17.

Miah Tolbert, CEO of Rise & Recover Selma, accepted a check for $11,500 from Chestnut at the 12th Annual Justice & Recovery Conference.

“I am very grateful for the work that you have done for the city and for the county and for the entire judicial district,” Chestnut said.

Tolbert’s “accountability court” system is a team-based effort of county court systems working with Rise & Recover, Inc., Edmundite Missions and others to provide restorative justice instead of jail time for drug crimes.

In addition to running Rise & Recover, Tolbert is executive director of Dallas County Court Services, which includes drug court, a family preservation program, mental health court and family wellness court.

Mandy Waller with the Alabama Administrative Office of Courts said, “We love to use Dallas County as an example all across Alabama.”
