The Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles participated in the River Region Day of Action in Selma to provide direct assistance to individuals in need.
The Bureau said in a statement they are delighted to be a part of a day focused on making a positive impact and promoting hope in the community.
"We provided individuals with information on the process of applying for pardons in order to restore their voting rights while also informing them on the crucial role we play in creating a safe community," the statement said.
WSFA 12 News and the River Region United Way teamed up with dozens of local organizations, nonprofits, and government agencies to offer community-wide assistance that ranges anywhere from aiding inmate mothers to children’s rehabilitation services. The River Region Day of Action event is a series of events held throughout the state in efforts to connect people with the help and resources they need.
The Selma event had a huge turnout as nearly 90 organizations, including Alabama Community College System, Violence Intervention Program, and Hope Inspired Ministries, helped hundreds of residents who came out. The four-hour event offered immediate resources for those who may be battling poverty. WSFA 12 News hosts these Day of Action events as a part of their series of special reports on poverty in Alabama, called “Raising the Bar: Overcoming Poverty in Alabama.”
