SABRA Sanctuary recognized October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a vigil for victims of abuse on Oct. 17.

The vigil featured a welcome by Clementine Ellis, a survivor helped by SABRA, a poem by Lillian Dunning and a prayer.

SABRA serves domestic violence victims in Dallas, Greene, Marengo, Perry, Sumter and Wilcox counties. ADECA administered the funds from the U.S. Justice Department.

SABRA is an emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children. SABRA believes that everyone is entitled to a safe and non-violent existence and that no one deserves to be abused or exposed to useless pain and violence, particularly within their own home.
