Secretary of State John Merrill encourages voters to take “ballot selfies” tomorrow during the Alabama primary runoff election between republican candidates Tommy Tuberville and Jeff Sessions.
Act 2019-370 allows for voters to take selfie pictures with their ballots as long as they do not disclose another voter’s ballot. The act was passed with the help of Senator Chris Elliot (R-Daphne).
Taking a picture of another voter’s ballot is a Class A misdemeanor in Alabama.
“Alabama voters, who have a long history of proudly attending the polls on Election Day, now have the opportunity to share their pride on social media or in other electronic formats through taking a ballot selfie!” said Merrill in a press release. “I am grateful for the work for Senator Chris Elliott and the Alabama Legislature for allowing our voters to express their excitement in the electoral process.”
Polls for the runoff election open at 7 a.m. tomorrow on July 14 and remain until 7 p.m.
