The Selma Art Guild will hold its annual Summer Juried Art Exhibition on June 25 at theSAGgallerylocatedat 508 Selma Ave.   

The juror for this event will be noted artist Neal Brantley of Montgomery, and take-in dates for entries will be Friday and Saturday, June 16-17.  

Take-infor artwill befrom 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The receptionon June 25will be from 2-4 p.m. with award presentations at 3p.m. 

SAG PresidentCam Walker Guarino said she is looking forward to a successful show, and sheisthankful“to have a very qualified juror in Neal Brantley.”  

Awards will include $500 for Best of Show, $200 for Best in Category, $100 for Second in Category and $50 for Third in Category. Categories include transparent, opaque,photography, 3D and dry. Entry fees are $50 for one or two pieces, $60 for three pieces and $70 for four pieces. Works may be reclassified at the juror’s discretion.  

Brantley took his first private painting lesson while he was in high school in 1966 from Troy University Art Professor Alice Thornton, who taught watercolor.His mother, Jane, was an artistformost of her life.   

Brantley studied art at Auburn University and later received a BFA inpainting from Tulane University in 1973. Some of his shows and awards are as follows:  

Brantley’swork has beencollectedby residents of Chicago, New Orleans,Atlantaand Tennessee.Some of his works are owned bytheRetirement System of Alabama, TulaneUniversityand the Louisiana State Museum.  

All works included in theSummer Juried Art Exhibitionwill be for sale unlessdesignatednot for sale. The Selma Art Guild will receive a 20%commission on all sales.  

Guarinosaidorganized art in Selma goes back more than 100 years to the 1920s with the Selma Art League. She said the Selma Art Club began in the 1950s, and the Selma Art Guild was formed in 1972 by Hunter and Lorena Garth to “promote and encourage art.”  

She said founding members included Rhea Smith, Dorothy Price, Leika Collins, CarolynBernsteinand Evelyn Youngblood.
