Chickens

The city of Selma wants to study what to do about chickens, as soon as they figure out where the issue should roost.

City Attorney Major Madison Jr. said that a city inspector happened upon some backyard chicken coops during a visit about another issue.

Madison asked if the city council wants to create an ordinance to allow backyard poultry. If so, will the city have to issue permits?

City Council President Billy Young asked the city council to table the discussion so it could be referred to a committee. Young said he would notify the council which committee will be assigned to study the issue of backyard poultry in the city limits.

This issue would be easier to decide in Demopolis because the city council meets at Rooster Hall.
