Selma City Schools (SCS) is celebrating after announcing that one of its coaches, Willie Edward Maxey, was inducted into the Alabama High School Athletics Association (AHSAA) Hall of Fame.Â
According to the announcement from SCS Maxey coached for more than 35 years and as also a teacher and administrator.Â
He was head of the varsity basketball coach from 1989 to 2000 and led the Saints to a 157–76 record, as well as seven area championships, three regional appearances, the 1994 Class 6A State Championship, and the 1998 State Runner-Up finish.
"Known for his discipline, encouragement, and commitment to excellence, Coach Maxey shaped generations of student-athletes on and off the court," said the announcement. "His impact was so great that the City of Selma honored him with 'May for Maxey' in 2021."
