An armed suspect was shot and injured by Selma police officers at the Walmart on Monday, said a statement from Chief Kenta Fulford.

The statement said that police were called to the 1500 block of Highway 14 E. about a subject with a gun.

"Upon arrival officers made contact with a black male subject with a weapon in the parking lot," Fulford said. "The subject then pointed the weapon at the officers and shots were fired in which the subject was struck."

The statement said no officers were injured and the suspect was taken to Vaughan Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The department is requesting anyone with additional information to direct it to the State Bureau of Investigations currently handling the case at 334-676-6000.
