Selma officials will mark expansion of the city’s broadband network with a groundbreaking ceremony at City Hall Saturday at 11 a.m.
“Selma’s transformative fiber broadband network (is) an unprecedented investment in bridging our city’s digital divide and creating opportunity for us all,” according to a news release from Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr.
“This citywide project promises to redefine the way we connect with economic and educational opportunities, care for our health and families, and participate in our increasingly digital world,” the release said.
Perkins said he will be joined by the Honorable Jane F. Garvey, global chairman of Meridiam, parent company of internet provider Yellowhammer, the company that will install the network; Bishop Timothy Paul, president of Omnipoint Technology, Inc.; and Seth HoedI, president, chief science officer and co-founder of Post Road Foundation, a nonprofit that helps communities develop broadband connected infrastructure.
