A $5.5 million spending package that funds various projects in the seventh district of Alabama, including in the Black Belt, has been approved, said an announcement from Rep. Terri Sewell.Â
"I am thrilled that the funding package passed today includes $5.5 million to support nine projects right here in Alabama's 7th Congressional District," said Rep. Sewell. "From Birmingham to Tuscaloosa and the Black Belt, these investments will fund essential infrastructure, expand economic opportunity, and improve the quality of life for every day families. I look forward to seeing the lasting impact that these federal dollars have in our communities!"
Projects included in the FY26 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act are:Â
$250,000 to Craig Field Airport in Selma for upgrades to the precision approach path indicating system, taxiway and runway signage, and parking asphalt repairs.
$1,656,000 to Selma for the revitalization of the Alabama Avenue by assessing, renovating, and converting fourteen existing buildings.
$500,000 for Marion National Guard Armory to be renovated into a multi-purpose community center that will offer workforce development training, a temporary shelter during emergencies, and a community hub for deploying and distributing essential supplies.
$1,015,000 for Rural Health Medical Program, Inc. to renovate the Uniontown Health Center with upgraded clinical equipment, labs, X-ray capabilities, and IT systems, as well as enhancing the roads and parking facilities.
$1,000,000 to construct a new joint police and volunteer fire station in Aliceville.
$750,000 to the Sumter County Commission for a new community center.
"After a year of chaos from the Trump Administration and a record-long Republican shutdown, I'm encouraged that House Republicans have finally joined Democrats and returned to the regular appropriations process," said Sewell. "It is my hope that we can continue working together to responsibly fund the government and avert another costly shutdown."
