Representatives Terri Sewell (AL-07) and Shomari Figures (AL-02) released a letter on Thursday to demand that the Montgomery Bus Station be removed from a list by the General Service Administration (GSA) of properties to be sold

The bus station is a historic building that houses the Freedom Rides Museum and had been included as a federal property to be sold following a directive from the Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE.

The list was published online but has been deleted. However, this has not stopped the representatives from speaking out.

Below is the brief statement:

“The museum serves as an essential historical landmark that not only honors the legacy of the Freedom Riders but also educates the public about our nation's struggle for equality and justice,” Sewell and Figures wrote. “Given its historical and cultural significance, we strongly encourage the GSA to remove the Freedom Rides Museum from the list. It is crucial that we preserve such landmarks, which are integral to understanding our shared history.”
