On Wednesday Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) will hold a virtual press conference to mark the 11th anniversary of Shelby v. Holder decision at 3 p.m.Â
House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-05), House Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar (CA-33), Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Steven Horsford (NV-04), and Rep. James Clyburn (SC-06).Â
A press release from Sewell's office claimed that the decision in 2013 "gutted" the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The speakers at the press conference will call on Congress to pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.Â
Sewell sponsored the act in 2023 and while it passed the House of Representatives it failed in the Senate.Â
The press conference will be livestreamed on Sewell's Facebook page here.Â
