As the end of 2025 approaches, so does the deadline to pay ad valorem property taxes without penalty.
Dallas County Tax Collector Tanika Wagner Neely Taxes reminds residents taxes must be paid by Wednesday, Dec. 31, before the courthouse and tax office closes at 4:30 p.m.
“Ad valorem taxes are due from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31 to pay without a penalty,” Neely said. “That will be the last day to pay without a penalty. Anything left unpaid after that date will be considered delinquent.”
The tax office will be closed Jan. 1 and 2 for the New Year holiday. When staff return on Monday, Jan. 5, delinquent fees will be applied to unpaid accounts, she said. Notices will then be issued to property owners, with efforts continuing through the spring to collect balances before the annual tax lien auction.
The tax lien auction is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, 2026, and will be conducted online through a vendor service. Neely noted that while the office works diligently to resolve accounts before the auction, many remain unpaid and are ultimately included in the sale.
Residents can pay their taxes in person at the courthouse, by mail or online at www.dallas.capturacama.com. Online payments are available until the second week of April. Personal checks are accepted until early March, after which payments must be made by cashier’s check, money order, or cash. Neely emphasized that regardless of payment method, taxes unpaid after Dec. 31 are considered delinquent.
Taxpayers can search for their parcel information online by owner name, property address or parcel number. For assistance, the tax office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.The office can be reached at 334-874-2519, and mailed payments should be sent to P.O. Box 987, Selma, AL 36702.
Neely also announced plans to host a public tax lien presentation in March or April to help citizens better understand the process. A date is expected to be set by January.
“We like to give a tax lien presentation to citizens who want to participate,” Neely said. “It’s free to the public, and we encourage people to attend.”
