Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day has updated the public regarding the truck wreck that killed two people and injured four others in May.

In a post on social media Day cited a report from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) that mentioned several key details.

The driver was reportedly distracted by his phone while driving more than 57 mph before striking the first vehicle that was stopped at a traffic light.

The driver is also said to have not hit the brakes as the 18-wheeler collided with the vehicle and 769 feet after the impact.

"That is well over the length of two football fields," Day said.

The driver is Andrii Dmyterko, 45, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who was in the U.S. on a work Visa along with Denys Kucher, 31, of Warminster, Pennsylvania.

Dmyterko was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter.
