An announcement on social media from Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day said that the Thomasville Police Department (TPD) will begin enforcing policies related to ATVs and non-licensed 4-wheelers/golf carts more strictly.

Day said that the action is to ensure the public's safety.

"TPD has been issuing warnings and working very hard to regulate this issue as diplomatically as possible," he said. "Many of the folks who have been warned continue to drive on streets and place themselves and the public in danger."

Day stated that anyone who is stopped by police will receive a ticket and their ATV may be towed.

But certain off-road recreational vehicles can be licensed as "street-legal" on particular city streets provided that they are driven by someone above the age of 16 with a license, he added.

Anyone who wants to check if their recreational vehicle is compliant can contact the TPD at 334-636-2174 or Chief Mitchell Stuckey at 334-456-1049.
