A postal worker in Thomasville escaped injury Friday after 5-year-old boy shot into her mail truck.

Thomasville Police Chief Mitchell Stuckey told the Clarke County Democrat the 5-year-old was shooting at his 7-year-old brother in their front yard and the bullet traveled through the windshield of her mail vehicle and came to rest in the sun visor above the postal worker's head.

The incident happened at 2:55 p.m. on Dozier Street.

"After investigating the incident we were able to identify a 5-year-old boy as the shooter. He found a gun carelessly laying out on a chair and picked it up. He pointed it at his 7-year-old brother as the mail lady was coming up the street and accidentally fired the weapon," Stuckey said. "We are working with the postal inspector and expect state and federal charges relating to the firearm. The firearm involved has been recovered."
