The Thomasville Regional Medical Center is the highlight of a recent Time Magazine story about why rural hospitals are closing.

As noted in the story the center opened in 2020 but closed several years later in 2024 due to a shortage in funding.

The story cites data from the Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform that reported 100 rural hospitals closing in the past 10 years, with many others facing imminent closures.

The recently passed "Big Beautiful Bill" legislation may affect these hospitals in the near future, it notes.

On social media Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day said that he is working to hopefully reopen the Thomasville Regional Medical Center.

"Not only is our Thomasville Team working toward reopening our hospital but we are joining the national debate and conversation about some of the key things that need to be done to reform and transform the delivery of healthcare in rural areas of our country," he said.
