The TNA Heat Basketball Club hosted their 9th Annual Selma Invitational this weekend in Selma, Alabama. Over 15 teams overall signed up to compete for first place in the elementary, middle, and high school division.
Randy Fincher, the director of the TNA Heat Basketball Club, stated that this was a great event. “Several teams from across Alabama and Mississippi competed in Selma this weekend. Teams came out with high spirits and maintained their energy as games came down to the wire. We plan to host the 10th Annual Selma Invitational next summer and hope the event will be even bigger.”
The Hoop Squad out of Birmingham, AL faced the Steel City Gators out of Birmingham, Alabama for the elementary school boys division championship. The Steel City Gators pulled through with a 32-26 victory in overtime. K. Garcia led the Hoop Squad with 10 points and the 6th grade MVP, K. Gallops, led the Steel City Gators with 13 points.
The HYEP Elite out of Hattiesburg, Mississippi faced Just Be Elite out of Birmingham, Alabama for the middle school boys division championship. In another nail bitter, Just Be Elite came through with the 43-36 victory over HYEP Elite. C. Craft led HYEP Elite with 17 points and the middle school division MVP, C. Hudson, led Just Be Elite with 11 points.
The TNA Heat high school boys team competed against Team Underrated out of Montgomery, Alabama. The Heat finished 4-0 this weekend to earn a 41-36 victory in the championship. B. Berry led Team Underrated with 11 points and the high school division MVP, Joshua Davis, Jr., averaged 14 points a game for the tournament.
Head Coach, March Hannah stated, “We are proud of our young men, they are a 9th grade AAU TEAM that played in the high school division and won the championship. We played well as a team and our defense was great this weekend. We were led in scoring by Joshua Davis in the tournament with 51 overall points, who won MVP and Miles Hannah with 49 points overall points who also had some thundering dunks. Hodges and Garrett man handled the boards on the defense and offensive end.”
