Two members of the College of Communication and Fine Arts at Troy University will perform at Carnegie Hall in New York on July 15.
The concert will feature the works of Troy Professor Emeritus Dr. Carl Vollrath. The two members are Dr. Heather Small, Associate Professor of flute, and Dr. Ben Crook, Assistant Professor of piano.
They will perform in the first half before Trio Casals performs the second half.
“I’m thrilled to be involved with this project, performing Dr. Carl Vollrath’s music on such a grand stage,” Small said. “It’s particularly exciting to present a piece of music for the first time.”
The concert will feature chamber works from Vollrath’s oeuvre, which includes his flute and piano sonatas, “The Glass of Absinthe,” the premiere of “Ravel Revival” and others.
“I feel deeply honored and humbled to play these fantastic musical works at Carnegie alongside one of Troy University’s incredible artists. It has been a pleasure preparing this performance with Heather Small,” Crook said. “Unlike Heather, this is my first experience performing Vollrath’s works, so it has been a great treat to discover the nuance, wit and broad range of expression found in his music.”
