UAB is now offering heated chemotherapy treatment for people with stage 4 cancer diagnoses, becoming the first location in Alabama to do so, according to UAB's website.

Treatment is being offered by UAB's Division of Surgical Oncology, which launched its hepatic artery infusion pump program to target colon cancer that has spread to the liver.

The heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy program (HIPEC) targets stage 4 appendix, colorectal, peritoneal mesothelioma, peritoneal and gastric cancers. The program will eventually target ovarian cancer.

Those who are eligible for the HIPEC program or seeking an opinion for a patient can call UAB at 205-934-3028 for appointments.
