The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Pediatrics (UAB), Coat of Arms and the Resident Access and Engagement Council held a drive where 600 backpacks with supplies were given to Selma City Schools (SCS) district.
An announcement from UAB stated that each backpack contained a composition notebook, folder and a pencil pouch stocked with pencils, crayons, colored pencils and others.Â
Payne Elementary, Sophia P. Kingston Elementary and Clark Elementary received surplus donations.Â
"This initiative highlights the dedication of pediatric residents not only to pediatric health care but also to supporting children and families across Alabama," said the announcement. "By ensuring that students have the tools they need, residents are helping to remove barriers to learning and encouraging every child’s success."
