The PREP Center in Uniontown recently graduated more than 60 new participants during a ceremony held on Friday, Dec. 20.

The ceremony brought the number of graduates close to 300, said a press release from the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles, which partnered with J.F. Ingram State Technical College, state legislators, and representatives from the Perry County commission.

Since beginning in April 2022, the program has not seen any participants return to prison, the press release said. It reportedly places an emphasis on rehabilitating people in the justice system and giving them second chances.

“This is just one chapter of a much longer book of your life,” Senator Stewart remarked at the ceremony. “You are greater than the worst thing you’ve ever done. Your growth is what makes our state a better place.”

“Life will try to knock you down, but you have to get back up,” said Bureau Director Cam Ward. “Today’s graduation symbolizes that each of you got back up.”

Testimonies were given by graduates, with remarks being made by David Burch, representing the GEO Group; ISTC Dean of Instructions Dr. William Young, and Board Member Darryl Littleton.

“I’m excited to use the tools, training, and education I’ve received throughout the program," said PREP Center Graduate Claude Campbell.
