Vaughan Regional Medical Center had an economic impact of almost $15 million in Dallas County in 2024, according to its annual community benefit report released today.
Economic impact includes uncompensated care, salaries for about 600 employees and taxes paid locally and to the state, according to the report.
“Our greatest contribution to this community will always be the care we provide, but it’s nice to share the significant, positive impact we have even beyond our hospital walls as a large employer, taxpayer and charitable contributor,” said Michael James, CEO of Vaughan Regional.
According to their community benefits report, Vaughan Regional provided
- $5.4 million in charity and other uncompensated care.
- $3 million in community health services, physician recruitment and professional development.
- $5.6 million in property taxes, provider taxes, payroll taxes and state and local sales taxes. More than $500,000 of that figure is local property and sales taxes.
“Vaughan Regional Medical Center is also devoted to creating environments where providers want to practice and employees want to work,” the report states. “In 2024, the hospital distributed approximately $25 million in salaries, wages and benefits for its 600 employees.”
In 2024 Vaughan Regional expanded care to the region by adding eight affiliated providers and making more than $1.2 million in capital improvements, including new orthopedic equipment and renovation of its endoscopy department.
The hospital supported local activities and organizations, including Alabama Wildlife Foundation, Blackbelt Benefit Group, Boy Scouts of America, Central Alabama Child Advocacy, Distinguished Young Women, Evans Foundation, Selma Charity League, Selma/Dallas County Chamber and Selma Rotary.
“These are among the many area organizations that share a similar purpose of lifting our community and its residents,” James said.
