A break in the water main that affected Marion residents over the weekend has been resolved and water services have been restored, said an update from the city on Monday.Â
The break was reported on Nov. 21 causing the city to schedule an emergency meeting on Monday night to consider funds for repairs. During this time volunteers came together to giveaway water to those in need of it.Â
In a message on social media by the City of Marion expressed gratitude to everyone who had a hand in the crisis.Â
"As we enter the Thanksgiving season, a time of reflection and appreciation, the City of Marion extends our deepest thanks to the men and women the unsung heroes who worked faithfully and tirelessly to restore vital water services to our community," said the message.
"Many went without rest, worked through the night, and operated under intense pressure and time constraints to ensure water service was restored safely and as quickly as possible. Their dedication is deeply valued and will not be forgotten."
Credit was given to engineers and specialists from Utility Engineering, as well as the Perry County Commission, Perry County Water Authority, Sowing Seeds of Hope, Perry County EMA Director, Sen. Rob Stewart, Jeffery Tubbs for transporting water for residents from the Rural Water Association, Piggly Wiggly (FoodValu), and local pastors, churches, organizations and donors.Â
"This experience has strengthened our commitment to improve infrastructure and continuous efforts to implement long-term solutions to support system reliability and public safety," the message said. "We remain dedicated to continued transparency and responsible progress."
"To everyone who played a role from leaders to engineers, volunteers to residents thank you. The spirit of Marion is defined by neighbors who show up, leaders who roll up their sleeves, and communities who stand together."
