Wallace Community College Selma (WCCS) President Dr. James M. Mitchell will retire, marking a career spanning more than 20 years.

Mitchell's retirement will be effective on Sept. 1.

"With a mixture of gratitude, pride, and a touch of melancholy, I announce my retirement as President of Wallace Community College Selma," he said in a note to staff. "This decision has not been made lightly, as my time here has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my life."

A press release from WCCS pointed out Mitchell's accomplishments, saying that he has expanded academic and technical programs, improved campus infrastructure, and fostered community partnerships.

“Together, we have navigated challenges, celebrated success, and fostered an environment of learning, inclusivity, and innovation,” he said. “The dedication and passion of our students, faculty, and staff have been the driving force behind our achievements.”

Mitchell noted that he will continue to support WCCS after his retirement.

“While this marks the end of my tenure as President, it is not a farewell,” he said. “I will always remain a part of the Wallace Community College Selma family.”
