Initial work for a project to widen the lanes of Interstate 85 in Montgomery from two lanes to three will begin on Sept. 20.Â
An announcement from the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) stated that the widening will take place from the end of the existing three-lane section at Taylor Road to Jenkins Creek.
Part of the project is the replacing of four bridges along the interstate, with two being over Chantilly Parkway and another two over the Kershaw Railroad.
The endeavor is approximately $71 million and was awarded to APAC-Alabama, Inc. from Birmingham.Â
The main work is expected to begin on Oct. 5. It is estimated to be finished in three and a half years.Â
