A woman from Hope Hull has been sentenced for reportedly lying under oath and committing perjury during a federal trial, said a statement from U.S. Attorney Thomas R. Govan, Jr.
According to court records cited by Govan's statement a domestic disturbance call was placed on July 13, 2025 reporting that Cindy Coffman Jacques, 59, was assaulted by her son, Raymond David Jacques III.
He was serving a term of federal probation and was arrested at the scene, which led to a revocation proceeding.
Cindy Jacques testified under oath on July 28 of that year but evidence would later indicate that she "knowingly made materially false statements" when she was denying telling a witness what to say in order to have the charges against her son dropped.
On July 8, 2026 she was sentenced to two years of probation, with conditions being to serve four consecutive weekends in jail followed by five months of home detention with location monitoring.
“Our justice system depends upon truthful testimony under oath,” said United States Attorney Govan. “Those who deliberately lie in federal court to influence the outcome of a case must be held accountable. A felony conviction carries significant and lasting consequences and affirms our commitment to protecting the integrity of judicial proceedings.”
