A Selma man is in custody after shooting three people at a gathering on July 4 that left two dead and one injured.

Selma Police reported Tuesday evening that the shooting took place at 2:33 a.m. July 4 at a gathering at 1500 block of Mabry Street.

An investigation identified the suspect as Jerry Thomas, 52, who was taken into custody and charged with the shooting. He was charged with two counts of murder and first-degree assault.

When police arrived at the scene, they found “multiple individuals suffering from gunshot wounds,” Selma police said in a statement.

Two died from their injuries: Jerome Baker, 22, and Demetrius Collins, 39. A third victim, Tymantha Underwood, 36, suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot injury and was treated for her injuries, police said.

Selma police say the incident remains an ongoing investigation and “due to the nature of this case and to protect the integrity of the investigation, certain information will not be released at this time.”
