York part of state grants for lowering energy costs

The City of York was among other communities to benefit from a grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) to upgrade heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. 

Additionally, the funding will also allow cities to install energy efficient lighting. The funds come from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program. 

“These upgrades represent a long-term investment that will lower energy costs for years to come, saving money in local budgets that can be put toward other needs,” Gov. Kay Ivey said. “I commend the leaders who secured these grants for recognizing the benefits of focusing on energy efficiency.”

The City of York was given $205,855 to install LED lighting and make HVAC upgrades at its municipal complex.

“Taking steps to increase efficiency is a sensible and sustainable approach to lowering costs and saving taxpayer money,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA is pleased to join Gov. Ivey in supporting these forward-looking projects.”
