The accolade, presented by Anita C. The ceremony, held at the heart of Selma, celebrated not just an individual, but the values of commitment, compassion, and excellence that Rita embodies.

A Journey of Service and Dedication

Rita Carmichael’s journey of service began long before she entered the classrooms of Gospel Tabernacle COGIC and Meadowview Elementary School. With a heart full of compassion and a spirit dedicated to uplifting those in need, Rita embarked on a mission to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable members of her community.

Her path to becoming a licensed teacher was paved with countless hours of selfless volunteer work. Before stepping into her role as a summer STEM & Fitness camp teacher and a 6th Grade Elementary School teacher, Rita served with the Catholic diocese. There, she played a crucial role in providing guidance and training for students who struggled to complete high school. Rita’s work extended beyond traditional teaching; she became a mentor, a guide, and a source of inspiration for these students, helping many attain their GEDs and guiding them towards a brighter, more hopeful future.

Empowering the Next Generation

At Gospel Tabernacle COGIC, Rita’s impact is felt through her instruction at the summer STEM & Fitness camp, where she inspires young minds to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while encouraging physical wellness. Her innovative approach to teaching combines academic rigor with the joy of discovery, creating an environment where children are motivated to learn and grow. Rita’s commitment to fostering both intellectual and physical development highlights her belief in nurturing the whole child, ensuring that her students are prepared not just for tests, but for life.

In her role at Meadowview Elementary School, Rita continues to make a difference through her dedication to her 6th-grade students. Her classroom is a haven for discipline, creativity, curiosity, and learning. Rita’s teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of building strong relationships with her students, creating an atmosphere where every child feels valued and supported.

A Legacy of Compassion and Excellence

The Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award is not just a testament to Rita’s accomplishments but a reflection of the legacy she is building. This award, presented by Anita C. Roberts, acknowledges individuals whose service has made a significant impact on their communities, embodying the ideals of perseverance, service, and leadership. Rita’s recognition is a celebration of her lifetime of work dedicated to enhancing the lives of children and making her community a better place.

In her acceptance speech, Rita Carmichael expressed her gratitude, reflecting on her journey with humility and grace. “This award is not just for me,” she said, “but for every child who has ever been inspired to dream big, every student who has ever struggled and persevered, and every teacher who has ever believed in the potential of their students. I am deeply honored and thankful for this recognition, but the real reward is seeing the success of the children I have had the privilege to work with.”
