April Fool’s Day was not funny for the Morgan Academy Varsity Senators who fell to the Lowndes Academy Varsity Rebels on the road 13-3.

Cade Henderson started on the hill for the Senators, allowing five hits and six runs (four earned) in one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one.

Against Lowndes Academy’s Ashton Yelder, the Senators got eight hits and three runs over five innings. Speedie Pernell led the Senators with two runs batted in. He went one for two at the plate. Trevor White and Clifton Smith each got two hits for Morgan.

On March 28, the day they retired the baseball jersey of late Morgan Academy athlete Caden Tellier, the Morgan Academy varsity Senators got eight hits but still fell to Monroe Academy 6-5.

Barron Frazer led the Senators with three hits.

On the mound, Frazer struck out 11 batters. He also allowed two hits and two runs over five innings and walked four.

A tag up by Frazer allowed the Senators lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the third inning. But

Monroe Academy took the lead, 6-5, in the top of the seventh.

Travis Jones and Wallis Gilmore collected multiple hits for Morgan. And Gilmore stole three of five stolen bases by the Senators.

“This game was right there for our taking and we let it out of our grasp” head baseball coach Paul Thomas said. “We just beat ourselves tonight in all facets of the game, and we just can’t do that and be able to win close games.”
