The Demopolis High School Tigers fell to the Wetumpka Indians by a score of 23-7 Oct. 30.

The Indians were a good team, but Demopolis did themselves no favors. The Tigers handed the Indians three interceptions, two of which led to touchdowns. One was a pick-six.

The Tigers seemed to have a hard time recovering from a touchdown early in the game that was called back when a referee called the catch out of bounds. Penalties also plagued the Tigers throughout the game.

The Indians led 13-0 at the half and added a touchdown in the third quarter and a field goal in the fourth quarter. Demopolis made a touchdown in the fourth quarter to prevent a shutout.

According to unofficial statistics, the Tigers generated more first downs than did the Indians, but drives were stalled or ended in turnovers. MaxPreps reports that Tigers quarterback JW McAlpine threw for 77 yards on 11 of 26 attempts. Carlow James picked up 69 yards and Jamarcus Davis rushed for 91 yards.

With this nonconference game, the Demopolis Tigers are 6-4 overall, but they are 5-1 in conference play. That’s the second-best record in Region 5A, behind Northside, who defeated the Tigers on Oct. 24.

The Tigers play the first round of playoffs next Friday.
