After getting off to literally a stormy start, the AISA Class A Region 2 Meadowview Christian Trojans ended the 2020 football season with a 33-14 loss on the road to regional opponent the Pickens Academy Pirates on Thursday, Oct. 22.
The Trojans ended the year 0-10, 0-5 in regional play.
For the Trojans, Randall Moore scored a touchdown on a 66-yard pass from Jaivon Rudolph. And Christian McPhillips scored on a 53-yard touchdown run. Ethan Everidge added the 2-point play.
Meadowview Christian School Headmaster, athletic director and head football coach Bob Taylor said both Pickens and MCS agreed to move the game up that had been scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23 to help with officials.
Taylor said he was proud of his boys for finishing the year. He said, “COVID only affected us for two weeks early in the year, which was tough. But like everyone else, we learned from it.”
The MCS Trojans lost their season opening rain-shortened game 40-6 to the Evangel Christian Alabaster Lightning at home on Friday, Aug. 21 and were required to forfeit their next two games due to COVID-19. The game against the Lightning was called due to inclement weather at the half.
In the week following the Evangel Christian Alabaster game, it was announced that a Meadowview Christian football player tested positive for COVID, so the school announced was required to forfeit the next two football games against Lowndes Academy and South Choctaw Academy.
Taylor said, “We had a football player test positive for coronavirus this week. With the 6/15 rule, it was determined that several other players would need to self-quarantine for 14 days as well.”
Taylor said MCS followed the updated Back to School Tool Kit issued by the Alabama Department of Public Health.
He said at the time, “After making contact with the ADPH, it was determined that this was the correct plan of action for all involved. We are disappointed that we will not be able to play due to the low number of remaining players.”
The school remained open, continued to monitor all students and followed protocols recommended by the ADPH.
