The Selma High School Saints dominated the Demopolis High School Tigers in a game that was interrupted by a blackout and ended at halftime after gunfire was heard from a nearby neighborhood.
The Saints only needed two quarters to demonstrate why they are undefeated this season. The score was Saints 56, Tigers 15.
The Saints, led by freshman quarterback Kole Moody and running back Cedrick Simmons, scored on every possession in the first half, which was actually the entire game. The Saints were successful in all but one 2-point conversion against a plucky but outclassed pack of Tigers. Saints nose guard Jamal Vinson was a standout on defense.
The Tigers gave up 24 points to the Saints before they got their first touchdown in the second quarter. Tigers quarterback Whit Goodwin and receivers Aidan Burns, Malik Gray and Jordan Cherry did what they could, but the Saints put on an overwhelming offensive and defensive show for their homecoming crowd.
The lights went out for about 30 minutes late in the second quarter. After the lights came back on, the Saints made two more touchdowns in the four remaining minutes of the first half.
The game was called at the half after gunfire was heard coming from a neighborhood near Memorial Stadium. No injuries were reported and it was unrelated to the football game.
The Selma High School homecoming court was presented at halftime as buses carrying the Demopolis team, band and cheerleaders left the stadium. The crowd was asked to leave the stadium immediately after the homecoming court was introduced.
The Saints remain undefeated 8-0 and the Tigers go into their homecoming next week with a 2-6 record.
