The Wilcox Academy Wildcats won their fourth straight regional contest Friday, downing the Sparta Academy Warriors at home 56-14.

With the win, Wilcox Academy improved to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in region play.

“It was a great night all around,” said Wilcox Academy head football coach Lebo Jones. He said, “I’m so proud of this team and especially our seniors who celebrated senior night.”

For the Wildcats, Julian Curry led the team in rushing for 271 yards on 20 carries and three touchdowns. Haas Terry, Marvin Moultry, Andrew Malone, Jim Vick and Steele Swanner added one touchdown each.

J.J. Sessions kicked four extra points, and Curry and Gabe Stockman both scored 2-point conversions.

The Wildcats racked up 485 yards on the ground.

On defense for the Wildcats, Vick and Swanner had six tackles each. Lee Hollinger had five tackles and an interception. Tait Crabtree also had an interception, and Sessions had a fumble recovery.

As of the latest standings, AISA Class AA Region 2 Wilcox Academy is ranked second in regional standings. With the loss, Sparta Academy dropped to 5-4 overall and 1-4 in region play.

Wilcox will end the regular season on the road against the Crenshaw Christian Academy Cougars on Oct. 31 in a non-region game.
