Selma High School basketball coach Willie Edward Maxey was recently honored with a video by the Alabama High School Athletics Association following his induction into their Hall of Fame in 2025.Â
He was noted for leading the Selma High School Saints to a Class 6A Championship in 1994. The team earned seven area championships and made it to the regional tournaments three times.Â
"Known for balancing discipline with encouragement, Maxey inspired generations of athletes while helping shape the Selma community," says the video.Â
Maxey was born in Selma and graduated from R.B. Hudson High School in 1961. After college he was employed there where he eventually became a coach.Â
