Jay Minter, a Selma lawyer and farmer, has joined the Neutral Solution mediation group that is based in Birmingham but works throughout Alabama.
The Neutral Solution opened in January and seeks to bring together a community of professional mediators and arbitrators from a variety of backgrounds and experience to give them increased opportunities from more places than they might be able to achieve on their own.
After a 20-plus year career as a sixth-generation farmer, Minter graduated cum laude from Jones School of Law at Faulkner University and will soon receive an LLM in Taxation from The University of Alabama School of Law. While in law school, Minter became interested in mediation and arbitration and has taken additional training to become a registered mediator in Alabama. His extensive agriculture and agribusiness knowledge will be able to help solve specific farming issues, among others, and allow people to move on with their lives.
“I love mediation because it’s the best way to work things out in an orderly manner,” Minter said. “It’s mentally stimulating to quickly and accurately assess everything that is going on in those rooms, what isn’t being said, figure out the pieces to the puzzle and find what is acceptable to both parties.”
Minter is available to mediate cases dealing with agriculture, agribusiness, rural property issues, small business issues, succession of family farms, incorporations, estate and business planning, specialized contracts, business to business issues and instant sales.
“I have more than 20 years of dealing with these issues as a businessman, so my experience will be invaluable to my clients,” he said. “I look forward to helping others navigate these complex situations so everyone is pleased with the outcome.”
The Neutral Solution team is made up of partners Allen Schreiber, Elam P. Holley Jr., Mark Bond and Thomas J. “Jay” Skinner. According to Schreiber, the group is excited to add Minter to the community.
“Many of our neutrals have specific knowledge that other mediators might not have,” he said. “Jay has personal experience in the intricacies of farming and agribusiness that will be invaluable in mediating these types of cases.”
