Events coming to support Garrett’s Place, a nonprofit helping foster children

Garrett's Place

Garrett’s Place, a nonprofit that helps foster children and families, will be supported by two events this spring.

The Little Sundress Party hosted by 103.7FM the Q was scheduled for April 28 at the Tin Roof at 7 p.m. The event will feature live music and raffles. Tickets are available at 1037THEQ.COM.

Another upcoming event is a spring yard sale hosted by Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church on May 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can be a part of this event by donating, coming to sell with us and donating at least 10% of the profits or just have fun by purchasing items at the sale.

The Jr. Ambassadors for Garrett’s Place will be making an appearance at this event. The Jr. Ambassadors are a group of youth making a difference in the community through Garrett’s Place by providing education to other children and youth on kindness, compassion and the children in foster care.

Garrett’s Place provides everything from suitcases to Bibles and all things in between to every child who enters their doorway. The ministry began through a tragedy in the lives of David and Paula Tarwater when they lost their middle son Garrett to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

For several years the heartache of this tragedy was deeply rooted within David and Paula, but what grew out of this tragedy was a beautiful, powerful impact in their community. As Paula stated, she misses Garrett every day, but how many parents can say that they get to live within the purpose of their child.

Garrett’s Place strives to be the hands and feet of God. It takes a village to raise a child, and the goal of Garrett’s place is to make everyone within the community to be a part of that village, according to information from Garrett’s Place.
