Five teens receive academic, community involvement awards from Selma City Council

Five area teens were honored for academic excellence and community involvement at the May 12 Selma City Council meeting by Councilwoman Jannie Thomas (Center) and Council President Billy Young (L). 

Five area teens were honored for academic achievement and community involvement by Selma City Councilwoman Jannie Thomas at the Selma City Council’s May 12 meeting.

Sydney Pritchett participates in the Drug Free Court. She will graduate from Selma High School this May.

Tachavious York is a graduating senior who has been actively involved in the community since a very young age.

Makayla Muse is graduating from Dallas County High School and is involved in her church. Muse is the granddaughter of Aurelia Craig.

Preshiya McReynolds was honored but did not attend because she was visiting a college with her father. Her aunt, Aurelia Craig, who is also the grandmother of Makayla Muse, accepted her acknowledgements for her.

Each honoree received a bible. Muse also received $250.

Michael Love Jr. received a $500 scholarship for writing a winning essay. The essay was judged by Sheryl Smedley of the Selma Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, Debra Mosely in the city attorney’s office and Preston McGee with The University of Alabama.
