Hocus Pocus star Thora Birch — who played the red-headed little sister, Dani, in the beloved 1993 film — recently came out as bisexual eight years after marrying a man.
On Wednesday, May 20, the former child actor, now 44, attended the 35th anniversary celebration of the popular gay bar The Abbey in West Hollywood.
“As a hometown girl, I’m always here to show my support for the community, which shaped so much of who I am and my identity as well, being a bi person,” she exclusively revealed to Us Weekly.
Birch added, “I don’t want to get too political, but find your community where you can, and stand with them, and stick with them, and share that love that you share together, and reach it toward others. That’s the only way we’re going to get through all this madness is just embracing one another. We have to stop fighting.”
In 2018, Birch married producer and talent manager Michael Benton Adler.
Aside from coming out as bisexual, Birch opened up about reprising some of her iconic roles in ’90s films, like Hocus Pocus, Now and Then, American Beauty, Monkey Trouble, and more.
“I feel like all of us would love that,” Birch said of revisiting her role as Teeny in 1995’s Now and Then. “I have no idea what that would look like, but it’s a shared dream for sure.”
The actress continued, “I feel like so many of my fans kind of wonder about, obviously, Dani [from] Hocus Pocus. I feel like Teeny, we know what happened with her, so that’s good, but it would be intriguing to see some of the other old standbys, like Enid from Ghost World. Who knows what she’s up to? She’s alive, probably. I think there’s also something nice about having them encapsulated.”
In addition to Birch, Hocus Pocus starred Omri Katz as Max, Vinessa Shaw as Allison, Bette Midler as Winifred Sanderson, Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah Sanderson, Kathy Najimy as Mary Sanderson, Sean Murray as the human form of Binx, Jason Marsden as the voice of Binx, and more. Hocus Pocus 2 premiered in 2022, although the original child actors did not return for the film.
