Cam Walker Guarino, second from left, artist of the month at Anderson Gallery shows off one of her oil paintings “Emerald Jungle” with from left Dana Mullen, Tony Andrews and Morgan Mullen.

Selma artist Cam Walker Guarino said she was pleased with the turnout for her art exhibition and reception at Anderson Gallery on Sunday, July 17.

Guarino, artist for the month of July at Anderson Gallery, said, “It was fun getting to see old friends and others who appreciated my art at both the opening on July 9 and the reception on Sunday, July 17.”

She said she sold one painting and interest was expressed in others. She said some traveled from as far away as Tuscaloosa and Mississippi to see her work.

Guarino said the exhibit at Anderson Gallery will remain up until the end of July and may be viewed by appointment by contacting Gery Anderson. The gallery is located at 730 Selma Ave.

Guarino, artist, Selma native and charter member of the Selma Art Guild Gallery, has spent 34 years teaching art and spreading the love for art to children and adults in Selma and the Montgomery area.

She has taught elementary, junior high and high school levels, as well as private classes for children and adults and at art camps, including the Chisholm Community through the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts Outreach Program.

She has been involved in the Selma Art Guild for 41 years, having served nine years as president, a position she currently holds.

Gery Anderson said in his announcement of Guarino as featured artist, “I am excited to show her beautiful paintings that are so colorful and exude so much joy.

She has such a unique perspective in her landscapes and other works that use line and brush strokes to effectively render the subject matter in a warm and fresh way.”
