The 59th annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee weekend drew thousands to Selma, as it does every year, for activities commemorating the Blood Sunday march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge to fight for equal voting rights.

The 2024 Jubilee featured Vice President Kamala Harris, who arrived at the bridge in a large motorcade at 1:51 p.m. Sunday and took the stage at 2:50 p.m.

The weather was gray with a misty rain until after noon, when the clouds cleared and left full sun for the Sunday activities, including the group march.

This year, a large screen was erected at the corner of Water Avenue and Broad Street so the crowd that stood by the thousands behind a barricade could see the speakers.
