The Selma City Council honored John Solomon for being named the 2024-2025 Alabama Basketball Official of the Year by the Nation Federation of State High School Associations. The council declared March 22 Dr. Lynda Blackmon Lowery Day in honor of her “lifetime of service to this community through education, mental health advocacy, historic preservation and civic leadership.” The council also declared Sept. 25 Mark Myles Day in honor of a popular youth mentor and community leader who was shot to death on Jan. 16. ...EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST SUNDAY...
* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills in the single digits are
expected.
* WHERE...Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Chilton, Dallas, Etowah, Fayette,
Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lowndes, Marengo, Marion, Perry,
Pickens, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and
Winston Counties.
* WHEN...Until noon CST Sunday.
* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin
is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of
subfreezing temperatures could cause pipes to burst.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must
go outside.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.
To prevent freezing and possible bursting of pipes they should be
wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.
