Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded five agencies that service abuse victims through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).

“These funds will support organizations that offer critical assistance to victims in their time of greatest need,” said in an online announcement. “I commend the staff members of each of these agencies for providing a safe haven and helping victims rebuild their lives.”

Of the five agencies four service victims in the Black Belt. They are:

The House of Ruth Inc. — $1,600 for services including a shelter and a 24-hour crisis line available to victims in Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Pike counties.

Tuscaloosa SAFE Center Inc. — $10,000 to provide professional assistance to victims of sexual violence in Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale Lamar, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter and Tuscaloosa counties.
