Silver Haired Legislature

Representing the Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission region at the session were (L-R) Chairperson Shirley McClurkin of District 68, Representatives Josephine Blackwell of District 71, Gerry Burford of District 69 and Richmond Chaney of District 65.

The Alabama Silver Haired Legislature met in Montgomery Oct. 14-16 to discuss issues vital to Alabama’s senior citizens.

The ASHL gives seniors throughout the state a chance to inform the Alabama Legislature of needs affecting them. Members passed a series of resolutions focused on enhancing the quality of life for older adults. The top ten resolutions as voted by the body will be forwarded to Gov. Kay Ivey and the Alabama Legislature for consideration.

Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission represents Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Dallas, Marengo, Monroe, Perry, Sumter, Washington and Wilcox counties.
