Voter turnout was no higher than 41% in Tuesday's primary.

Here’s a rundown of local election results in Black Belt counties covered by the Black Belt News Network, according to the Alabama Secretary of State’s website.

The March 5 vote was the Democrat and Republican primaries, but because many of the seats had no Republican opponents, the general election is a formality.

In Perry County, 2,690 votes were cast, which is a turnout of 35% of registered voters.

Carlton L. Hogue edged Roy J. Fikes by 47 votes to take the Democratic nomination for Probate Judge. There is no Republican opponent.

Eulas Kirtdoll Sr. earned 53.9% of the vote (303 votes), defeating Kimberly Cosby-Walter to take the District 1 seat on the Perry County Commission. In District 4, Barbara Howze beat Cedric Hudson with 59.7% of the vote (279 votes). In District 5, Carton “Carl” Lewis won with 63.2% of the vote (366 votes), defeating Ron Miller.

In the race for Board of Education District 2, Cheryle L. Thomas won with 51.4% (185 votes) to defeat Drian Moore.

Marengo County residents cast 5,203 votes for a turnout of 33.14%.

In the race for Circuit Court Judge Place 1, Gregory S. Griggers won with 72% (2,934 votes), defeating Robert “Rob” J. Lee Jr.

Darren Glass won the race for Circuit Clerk with 71.6% (2860 votes), defeating Emily Yelverton.

Calvin Martin defeated three challengers for the Marengo County Commission District 4 seat. Martin earned 62.9% (714 votes) to defeat David Keith Bennett, Christopher Bouler and Patrick Price Sr.

Mark Bedsole defeated J.B. Qualls with 85.2% (715 votes) for the Marengo County Board of Education District 2 seat.

In Wilcox County, 3,538 votes were cast, for a turnout of 41.5%, the best in the Black Belt.

Britney Jones-Alexander defeated Evette Salter-Woods with 69.3% (1,746 votes) in the race for Probate Judge.

In the race for Wilcox County Commission District 2, Robert L. “Chub” Stallworth Jr. defeated Timothy Terill Beasley and Trasey Lee Johnson Sr. with 60.2% of the vote (304 votes).

Shelia S. Dortch defeated Eli Mack with 55.9% of the vote (277 votes) in the race for Wilcox County Board of Education District 3.  

Carolyn Davis-Posey defeated Saquana Dear Agee and Pamela Moton-Perryman with 53.6%(1,400 votes) for  the position of Wilcox County Circuit Court Clerk.

In Lowndes County 2,585 votes were cast for a turnout of 26.8%.

The race for the Lowndes County Commission District 3 seat ended in a tie between Flether Hayes and Joshua “Mole” Simmons, both with 229 votes or 41.2%. Donald J. Carter Jr. received 17.6% of the vote.

Dickson Farrior took the seat for the Lowndes County Commission District 5 with 69.6% of the vote (416 votes), defeating Terrell Means and Roderick Thronton.

In Dallas County, two former incumbents battled it out to serve as District 1 commissioner. Former incumbent Valerie Reubin fought to reclaim the seat she lost to Connel “Big Daddy” Towns Sr. four years ago but came up short. Towns beat Reubin with 59.6 percent of the vote to her 40 percent.

In District 2, incumbent Vivian Rogers easily earned another four years in the primary election by beating out challengers Scott Swanson and Moses Thomas with 77 percent of the votes. Rogers got 718 votes compared to Swanson with 137 votes and Thomas with 77.

District 3 Commissioner Curtis Williams gets to keep his seat in an uncontested race with no opponents.

District 4 incumbent Jan Justice did not run for reelection, leaving the seat open to newcomers William Lumpkin and Mark Neely. Lumpkin, who is husband of Orrville Mayor Louvenia Lumpkin, won the seat without the need of a runoff with 58 percent of the vote to Neely’s 41 percent.

Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn gets to keep his position as judge and Dallas County Commission Chairman for another four years as he had no opposition.
