The State Lands Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is set to conduct a public auction for leases of state-owned land for hunting.
140 leasing tracts across 32 counties will be part of the auction. Counties in the Black Belt include Clarke, Choctaw, Greene, Lowndes, and Perry.Â
The auction will take place on May 31 Grande Hall at Old Mill Square, 105 West College Street in Columbiana at 10 a.m. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m.Â

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Fire
Weather Watch for Central Alabama, which is in effect from
Saturday morning through Saturday evening.
* WINDS...Northeast 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 19 percent.
* IMPACTS...The combination of a dry air mass and windy
conditions will result in critical fire weather conditions.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions
are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible
Red Flag Warnings.
